The extra patrols are being sent to schools throughout Putnam County after Putnam Valley High School received a threat on Thursday morning, March 30, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
The high school went into lockdown as a result of the call, Putnam Valley Superintendent Jeremy Luft said.
The lockdown was then lifted after sheriff's deputies cleared the school of any threat.
Despite the call, Luft said there was "never a legitimate threat" to the school or others in the area.
Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville also confirmed that there is no danger to schools in the county.
After the high school was searched, elementary and middle schools in Putnam Valley were asked to do a "hold in place" while authorities inspected them for any threats. Luckily, nothing was found.
The Sheriff's Office is now investigating the calls and making sure the safety of students and faculty is confirmed.
"We are out there to protect the children, teachers, and staff of our schools," the Sheriff's Office said.
All schools in the county remain in session, and classes have resumed as scheduled.
Similar threats hit schools throughout New York state on Thursday, including Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua. State police are also investigating the false threats.
